you can tell … from …

States a fact, then says what it is you are reading that fact off. The N in the second half is your evidence — usually a figure, a document, or something visible. Common in reports and analysis because it delivers the conclusion and the grounds for it in one sentence.

You can tell from the sales figures that there have been fewer customers.
You can tell how meticulous he is from the photo album he put together for us back then.
You can tell the senior cared about us from that letter.

※Don't confuse it with -기 때문에. This pattern is not about the cause, it is about what you are reading the fact off. 매출이 줄었다는 것은 이번 분기 보고서에서 알 수 있습니다 — the report is how you know, not why sales fell.

EVERYDAY

We remember that senior differently——Two former club members run into each other at a reunion after years apart and start talking about the senior who used to lead them. Their memories do not line up.(지현=Ji-hyeon (former club member) / 태우=Tae-u (former club member))

Do you still come to this club reunion?
I do, about once a year. I didn’t expect to see you today.
Do you remember Min sunbae, who used to mentor us back then? I always thought Min was a bit hard to please.
He wasn’t difficult, he was meticulous. You can tell how meticulous he was from the minutes he left us.
Now that you say it, yes. I only remembered him as cold. I think I only saw his faults.
Same here. Back then, all that stuck with me was our sunbae's nagging.
Looking back, that thoroughness was what made him appealing. Thanks to him, our team's reviews were always positive.
True. I hope we can get him to come to the next one.
