V-(으)오니

Since …, (please …)

This is how notices, announcements and formal letters give a reason. The reason comes first, and what follows is almost always a request or an instruction closing on something like -아/어 주시기 바랍니다. It is the formal counterpart of -(으)니까, far more deferential, and it places the writer lower than the reader.

접속 conjugation

  • A vowel-final stem takes -오니 and a consonant-final stem -으오니: 필요하다 → 필요하오니 / 있다 → 있으오니
  • ㄹ stems drop the ㄹ: 알다 → 아오니 / 만들다 → 만드오니
  • ㅂ-irregular stems change: 어렵다 → 어려우오니 / 가깝다 → 가까우오니

This belongs to written Korean, so using it face to face sounds like reading a notice aloud. In speech, -(으)니까 or -아서/어서 does the job. You will actually use it when writing a formal document, or when reading a notice out to someone.
