V-기 위해(서)usage

The first clause states the purpose of the action in the second clause. The subject is the same in both clauses, and the first clause contains a verb. The 서 in -기 위해서 may be omitted; before a noun, the form becomes -기 위한.

※Compared with -(으)려고, which is conversational and difficult to use in commands or suggestions, -기 위해서 is widely used in formal speech and writing and can also be used in commands: 합격하기 위해서 열심히 공부하세요 / 합격하려고 공부하는 중이에요 Do not attach it directly to an adjective; first add -아/어지다 to make it a verb: ✗ 예쁘기 위해서 / ✓ 예뻐지기 위해서
