V-냐고 하다[묻다]

to ask whether … (reporting a question)

Reports a question somebody asked. Use this form when the original was a question, followed by 하다 or 묻다. What you are relaying is what they asked, not what they said.

접속 conjugation

  • Verb or adjective stem + -냐고: 가다 → 가냐고, 바쁘다 → 바쁘냐고
  • Past + -았/었냐고: 했냐고 물었어요
  • Noun + -(이)냐고: 학생이냐고 물었어요
  • -는지 묻다 is also common with verbs, but -냐고 stays closer to the wording of the original question.
