V-는데요
… , you see (setting up the situation and leaving the rest to the listener)
You stop halfway, put the situation on the table and let the other person take it from there. Softer than a flat 「…예요」, it is the usual way to open a request, to decline gently, or to raise something the listener isn't expecting.
접속 conjugation
- Verb, present ＋ -는데요: 가다 → 가는데요, 찾다 → 찾는데요
- 있다/없다 also take -는데요: 있는데요, 없는데요
- Past ＋ -았/었는데요: 예약했는데요
- Noun ＋ -인데요: 예약한 사람인데요
- Adjectives take -(으)ㄴ데요 instead: 좁다 → 좁은데요, 조용하다 → 조용한데요
